Michele Carey, born Michele Lee Henson was the son of Stanley Willard Henson, Jr who was a physician in America, and Thelma Burnell Henson. Burnell Henson. As a teenager she became an expert at playing piano and won a national contest at the Chicago Music Festival when she was just 13 years old.
